Pension advice

See your whole pension picture before you choose.

Pension advice starts with your full picture, not a product. The advice sets your AOW, employer scheme, own savings and the tax on them side by side. AOW is the Dutch state pension. You see what you already have and what a next step would change.

Arrived mid-career? Self-employed? Pension in more than one country? Then the pieces rarely fit on their own, and that is what the advice sorts out.

What our associated company does for you

They map all three layers and advise on the routes that fit. They arrange what you choose and review it each year.

What we do

We introduce you and stay alongside. We connect it to your mortgage, your income and your tax. And we show what changes for your tax if you leave or return to the Netherlands.

Curious how the Dutch tax office taxes your pension once it pays out? You can read that on our pension tax page.

Started later in the Netherlands? Each year living or working here adds 2% of a full AOW. Our pension gap guide shows the size of your AOW gap and the routes to close it.

How it works

Four steps, you decide.

Your options

We explain your tax room

Tax room is what you can still put into your pension with a tax benefit. We show how to use it.

You leave with a clear view of your tax room.
You decide

Everything clear before you commit

Our associated company sends a written proposal with the scope and the price. You decide whether it goes ahead.

You leave with a fixed proposal to say yes or no to.
The hand-over

Advice and arrangement

From here our associated company takes over: they advise on the pension, arrange it and take it out with you.

You leave with a plan that stays current every year.

How this advice works and who provides it

Pension advice is provided by our associated company A&H Finance. They advise you, arrange the pension and invoice you. Your agreement for this advice is with them and they are responsible for the service. TaxSavers introduces you and is not a party to that agreement. Do you have a complaint about the advice? Raise it with them first. If you do not reach a solution together, you can take it to Kifid. Kifid is the Dutch complaints institute for financial services. They are registered there and have accepted binding advice, so a Kifid ruling binds them.

This advice has its own fee. TaxSavers charges nothing for the pension and receives no fee or commission for it.

Whole-picture approach

They start at a product. We start at you.

With us, the conversation starts with your situation. A provider starts with the product it sells. The advice first maps your three pension layers and only then points to the route that fits.

Ten years self-employed and pension never made my list. In one session I saw all three layers. I also saw what I could still set aside this year and what that means for my tax return.

Frequently asked

Pension advice questions, answered.

The questions we hear most in a first call. Yours not here? Ask your tax advisor

What does a pension advisor do?
A pension advisor maps your full pension picture and advises on what fits. That means your AOW, any employer pension, private arrangements and pension built abroad. That advice comes from our associated company. We handle the tax side and connect it to your mortgage and income.
I am self-employed. Do I need pension advice?
Without an employer scheme, the layer you build yourself is the only one you control. There are tax-friendly ways to use it. We work out how much tax room you have. Building that layer with an annuity? Read our annuity advice page and check whether your annuity premium is tax-deductible. Our fiscal retirement reserve page explains what you can do with that reserve.
I arrived in the Netherlands mid-career. Is my AOW enough?
AOW builds at 2% for each year you live or work in the Netherlands. A complete AOW takes fifty full years, so a later start leaves a shortfall. How you find and close that gap, you can read on our pension gap page.
What happens to my pension if I leave the Netherlands?
If you neither live nor work in the Netherlands, your AOW build-up stops. You can often continue it voluntarily. Apply for this in time at the SVB, the Dutch social insurance bank. Your other pension usually stays where it is. The exact rules depend on the country, the tax treaty and the type of pension. Before you go, our associated company maps what changes for your pension. We add what it means for your tax, so there are no surprises.
Is the Dutch pension system changing?
Yes. Every pension scheme must move to the new Dutch pension rules by 1 January 2028. The largest funds have already made the switch. Your plan stays current while that happens. What changes when you actually retire, you can read in our retirement guide.
What does pension advice cost?
The fee is agreed with you before any work starts. The first call with us is free and without obligation.
Is pension built abroad part of the advice?
Yes. Pension from another country is part of your full picture. We explain how the Netherlands taxes a foreign pension on our foreign pension page. For US accounts we explain the rules on our Roth IRA page. Have a US 401k? Read how the Netherlands taxes it on our 401k tax page. Professional footballers find their rules on our football pension page. The pension advice brings it all into one plan.
Are you authorised to give pension, mortgage and insurance advice?
TaxSavers advises on tax, not on mortgages, insurance or pensions. For those we work with A&H Finance, a trade name of New Business Group B.V. They hold the AFM licence (12017511) and they advise and arrange. The AFM is the Dutch regulator for financial markets. We introduce you and take on the tax that follows.
