Quarterly VAT return

We file your VAT return in the Netherlands, every quarter.

We prepare it from your invoices and file it with the Belastingdienst. Your VAT return reports the VAT you charged and the VAT you paid in one period. You pay the difference or get it back. Most businesses file it every quarter. Filing monthly or yearly instead? We handle those returns too.

Charged no VAT this quarter? You still have to file. We file the nil return too, so no period is left open.

Two rates cover most Dutch invoicing: 21% on most work and a reduced 9% on some. We check which rate belongs to your work, so the return matches what you actually charged. We explain the return to you in English. Selling to other EU businesses? We prepare your ICP declaration from the same invoices. The ICP declaration is the EU sales listing, your report of sales to EU businesses.

Quarterly VAT return
How it works

Four steps, from first call to filing.

The same rhythm each quarter, so you always know what happens next.

Your quarter

You send us your invoices

You send your sales and cost invoices for the quarter. Nothing needs to be sorted first. Invoices from suppliers outside the Netherlands count too.

You leave with one place to send everything, every quarter.
Draft first

You approve the draft

We prepare the return and send you the numbers. You can ask anything before we submit it.

You leave with the figures explained before we file.
We file

We file it with the Belastingdienst

We submit your return in the tax authority's business portal, Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk. We then confirm what you owe or get back. If you owe VAT, you pay it to the Belastingdienst yourself. We tell you how much and by when.

You leave with your VAT return filed before the deadline.

“A VAT return is straightforward once someone has seen how you invoice. The time goes into knowing which rate belongs where. That is the part I take on for you.”

Pricing

One price per quarter, agreed up front.

Your price depends on the number of invoices and the way you work. You hear it in the first call and get it in writing.

Also filing an income tax return with us? We quote both in the same conversation.

How we price

If a quarter takes more work, we quote it first and never bill it afterwards.

VAT filing

You invoice. We file.

Filing yourself works for plenty of businesses. We take on the rates, the deadlines and the portal. The return then matches the invoices you actually sent.

Frequently asked

VAT return questions, answered.

The questions businesses ask us most about the VAT return. Not seeing yours? Ask your advisor

When do I file my VAT return in the Netherlands?
Most businesses file every quarter, one month after the quarter closes. For 2026 that means 30 April, 31 July, 31 October and 31 January 2027 for the final quarter. The Belastingdienst sets your frequency and can also put you on monthly or yearly filing. We file monthly, quarterly and yearly returns. For monthly or yearly filing, we set your price in the free first call.
Do I still file if I charged no VAT this quarter?
Yes. A quarter without VAT still needs a return, known as a nil return. You report zeros rather than nothing at all. We file it for you, so a quiet quarter does not become a late filing.
What happens if I file my VAT return late?
File more than seven calendar days past the deadline and the Belastingdienst charges an €82 fine. A late payment triggers its own penalty on top of that. We file your return before the deadline itself.
Which VAT rate applies to my invoices?
Most goods and services carry 21%. A reduced 9% rate covers food, books, medicines and repairs. Exports outside the EU carry 0%. What falls under 9% is narrower than most people expect. We go through your invoicing once and apply the right rate from there.
I sell to businesses in other EU countries. Does that change my return?
You report sales to businesses elsewhere in the EU in a separate ICP declaration, alongside your VAT return. Selling to consumers in other EU countries follows its own set of rules. We prepare the ICP declaration together with your return, so both sets of figures match. Our guide to the ICP declaration explains how it works.
What does a VAT return cost?
You get one fixed price per quarter, agreed before we start. The first call is free and the quote comes in writing. If a quarter gets busier, we quote the extra work first.
